Day 1 : Antalya

Meet at the Antalya airport with Demavend Travels representative and drive to the old city centre, known as Kaleici.  It is uncertain when the site of the current city was first inhabited. Attalos II, king of Pergamon, was believed to have founded the city around 150 BC, naming it Attalia and selecting it as a naval base for his powerful fleet. However, excavations in 2008 have uncovered remains dating to the 3rd century BC, suggesting that the city was founded earlier than previously supposed. Antalya became part of the Roman Republic in 133 BC when King Attalos III of Pergamum willed his kingdom to Rome at his death. The city grew and prospered during the Ancient Roman period; today the city includes sites with traces of Lycian, Pamphylian, and Hellenistic -but mainly Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman- architecture and cultures.

A 24m wide ancient street runs through the middle of the city with ruins of shops and stores on the sides and near these are ruins of public places such as Roman baths, agora and theatres; also there are water canals between the town centre and the 70m plateau with numerous sarcophagi. From here you follow the Lycian Way; after a short walk and crossing the bridge you will soon reach Tekirova which is the next village. You will sepnd the Night in Tekirova at the Hotel/or Pension.

Today’s route is a mixture of dirt road and footpath which is labelled with red and white marks, the Lycian Way signs. The first part of the route goes over an old mine road until you reach Maden beach. Then it goes further along rocky paths and isolated beaches. You will have swimming chances and fantastic panoramic views. The path makes a lot of turns and at the end finally will take you down to an asphalt road and from there to Cirali. You will spend the Night in Cirali at the Hotel/or Pension.

Day 4 : Ulupinar to Cirali via Flames of the Chimera (Chimaira)

Today’s walk will take you through a beautiful pine forest with nice streams, rivers and viewpoints. There is a short transfer to the starting point in Ulupinar, where you pick up the Lycian Way and continue to follow the trail south. After following the stream for a while, you climb up to a small Hill and follow the walking path to the Flames of Chimaera. Called in Turkish Yanartas (flaming rock), the spot consists of some two dozen vents in the ground, grouped in two patches on the hillside. The vents emit methane thought to be of metamorphic origin. In ancient times sailors could navigate by the flames. Afterwards you make a gradual descent to the coast, finally arriving at the beach at Cirali. You will spend the Night in Cirali at the Hotel/or Pension.
Walking time: 3/4 h; walking distance: 9 km; ascent: 190m; descent: 330m;

Day 5 : Cirali to Adrasan via ancient Olympos & Musa Dag (Mount Moses)

Your trek today will take you to Adrasan; a pleasant small settlement with a 2 km long sand beach; an attractive choice for those who like to have a swim in the sea. Today you first pass Olympos ancient city; situated in a river valley near the coast. The former city of Olympos was founded in the Hellenistic period, presumably taking its name from nearby Mount Olympos. Afterwards you trek to Musa Dag (Moses Mountain); over the ridges covered with pine woods. The path will take you to the top, where you can see Adrasan Valley at the saddle. From the Top you descent down to Adrasan; the path goes in the pine woods and reaches the sea level. You will spend the next two Nights in Adrasan.
Walking time: 8 h; walking distance: 24 km; ascent: 660m; descent: 645m;
ON: in Adrasan at the Hotel/or Pension

Day 6 : Adrasan to Karaöz via Gelidonya lighthouse

A simply superb day of coastal walking, you will begin today’s walk from your accommodation; climbing steadily to a pass at 470 metres. Then dropping down closer to the sea’s edge, the route twists and turns amongst limestone crags sometimes under pine trees and sometimes on the cliff edge. There are views down to hidden coves and across to desert islands. This is a beautiful walk contouring the range of hills which forms the backbone of Gelidonya. You climb again to arrive on a rocky ridge crest overlooking the peninsula of Cape Gelidonya with its two lighthouses. Descending a stony path to the upper of these we then follow a wide trail down through pine forest to Karaöz where you will be picked up and transferred back to Adrasan where you will spend the Night.
Walking time: 8/9 h; walking distance: 24 km; ascent: 400m; descent: 400m
ON: in Adrasan at the Hotel/or Pension
Meals: B / – / D

Day 7 : Adrasan to Antalya

In the morning you return to Antalya where you will spend the Night in the old part of the town.  For the rest of the day we advise you to explore Antalya’s old city centre known as Kaleici with its narrow cobbled streets of historic Ottoman era houses; with streets and buildings still bear the marks of Antalya’s history. The old city centre has been restored to retain much of its historical character; in and around the Kaleici area you can find traces of Lycian, Pamphylian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Seljuk architecture and cultures, most famous the Hadrian’s Gate, the Clock Tower, Yivli Minare and Hidirlik Tower.  We also advise to visit Antalya Museum; established in I922 by and covers an area of 30 000 square meters with 13 exhibition galleries: Galleries of the Prehistory, Potterys, finds from the region excavations done by the museum and Universities, Gods statues, Mosaics, Icons, statues of Perge Theatre, Sarcophagi, Coins and Jewellery, Ethnographical Collections.
