Itinerary: 8 Days

 

Day 1: Kayseri - Ihlara
Meeting at the airport and transfer to the pension in Ihlara for overnight, (-/-/D)

Day 2: Hiking Ihlara Canyon
After breakfast and a short transfer (20 min), we arrive in to Ihlara Canyon, a 13 km long canyon with hundreds of rock cut rooms and churches. We start hiking from Ihlara village and visit couple churches along the way to Belisirma. We’ll have lunch by the river and carry on hiking the rest of the valley towards Selime Monastery, one of the largest complexes in whole Cappadocia. Overnight at Pension, (B/L/D)

Day 3: Ihlara to Goreme
After breakfast, we drive to Derinkuyu underground city; a huge hidden city under the plains of Central Anatolia, with eight stories and the word “Swiss Cheese” is the best way to explain this structure. Wholes everywhere, up there, underneath your feet, on the right, left connecting each other with long tunnels. Transfer to Goreme and overnight at hotel. (B/L/D)

Day 4: Cappadocia
Today we continue our exploration of this fascinating region. First up spend time exploring the Museum of Goreme, one of the area's most interesting sites, where we can see the best preserved frescoes of Cappadocia area and will get information of Early Christianity. After lunch break, we hike the Swords Valley towards Cavusin village with great views of Red Valley area. Late afternoon an option to visit a pottery handcrafts centre to get information about this 5000 years old tradition of the area. (B/L/D)

Day 5: Cappadocia
After breakfast, we will go walking in Kizilvadi, the Red Valley, and visit the troglodyte town Cavusin. We will also see the most interesting triple capped fairy chimneys in Pasabag Valley. There is the option of enjoying a traditional Turkish bath to relax after all or we go to discover local handcraft of the area, will visit a carpet workshop, whether knotted or flat woven (kilim) carpets are among the best known art forms produced by the Turks from time immemorial. There are environmental, sociological, economic, and religious reasons for the widespread art of carpet weaving among the Turkish people from Central Asia to Turkey. (B/L/D)

Day 6: Akvadi – Uchisar
Drive to the trailhead point at the beginning of the Akvadi (white valley). We walk in this valley following an old river (today vineyards). In this valley the fairy chimneys are particularly slim. At noon we arrive in Uchisar village to visit the high viewpoint known as “fortress”. In the afternoon we walk in the pigeon valley, called so because of the numerous “pigeon houses” built in the 18th century. (B/L/D)

Day 7: Urgup – Ortahisar – Zemi Valley
In the morning we go for a ramble on a plateau offering a magnificent view on the Uzengi valley. Then, we enter in the Pancarlik valley in order to see the numerous cones and fairy chimneys decorating our path and also to visit the Kepez and Sarica churches for their architectural interest. Following our pathway we arrive in Ortahisar village, an opportunity to taste Turkish local meals. In the afternoon drive to trailhead of Zemi Valley and hike down to Goreme village surrounded by extraordinary rock formations. Late in the afternoon we drive to a local Carpet Shop to get information about one of the oldest hand crafts of Turks. Overnight at the same Hotel, (B/L/D)

Day 8: Cappadocia – Kayseri – Home
In the morning Transfer to airport and fly back home. (B/-/-)
